Otavalo is famous worldwide for its indigenous market. It is about 90 kilometres north of Quito in a beautiful, lush green valley surrounded by volcanos. Every Saturday, the Plaza de los Ponchos turns into one of the largest indigenous markets in South America. Colorful market stalls sell local textiles, intricate jewelry, handcrafted leather goods, and vibrant artwork.
